Village Square Zwanenburg
Zwanenburg is a ‘ribbon village’ in one of the polders near Amsterdam and Schiphol. BOOM Landscape joined forces with Moke Architecten who were invited by the municipality to tender for the project. The teams were asked to make a design for the new town hall as wel as the square in front of it.
By introducing a pedestrian bridge main street, the new square and the public green all get connected, making all public spaces more accessible. The town hall has service desks, sport facilities, a library and rooms for to By putting the entrance of the town hall in the middle of the square, public space will be as lively as possible. A special pattern in the paving works like and a carpet in a living room, inviting inhabitants of the village to stay and meet each other.
The green atmosphere of the square created by White Willows in waving grass fits the village as wel as the polder. The dead end in the water structure is turned into a lope that forms one of the sides of the square, creating a continuos flow for a healthier ecosystem of the water. The steps of the stairs towards the water provides a place to hang out.
